E-mail at JetBlue

Flying E-Mail Coming on JetBlue?
— In a partnership with Yahoo! and Research In Motion, the Canadian company behind the BlackBerry, JetBlue is equipping one of its Airbus A320s with a special version of WiFi that's compliant with the FCC ban on in-flight cellular communications. The result is that passengers with WiFi-enabled laptops and BlackBerry users with certain models will have airborne access to 'lightweight' versions of Yahoo! e-mail and IM.

Facts that bother me!

As all of us know, the data transfer has been piece of cake, we have almost all the needed protocols and interfaces to do that. Well, as a layperson, if one were to think about data transfer, they can make television a great example. Each of those channels deliver perfect looking videos without any delay or problem in presentation. Why can't we do the same for data on the computers. I mean to post a question and that is:

Why do we still don't have access to the internet on planes, why do 90% of the passenger have to be bored to death on cross country and international flights? Why can't we just have the internet everywhere. Why can't we have access to wifi just about any place where we can get cell phone service?

I don't know, I have engaged into this type of topic, talking to my friends for hours and hours. There was one time that me and two of my other friends were driving from Ocean City, MD. One of my friends fell asleep in the back seat but me and the other dude kept talking on topics like the above. Haha...you wouldn't believe it. We started getting loud, not fighting, but trying to prove our points of views. We stumbled upon the fact that the cars don't have internet or say a usb port. Why not? I mean why can't all cars have that, I don't know. It bothered us to think that we gotta honk at other cars on the road if there is need, say for example, if they are veering off the edge and aparently because they are not looking at the road, we would want to be able to send an IM to the frequency belonging to that car and they can thank us by showing a nice "Thank You" note as a screen saver on their rear window. All cars could have a profile, which would include it's passengers, and their info to the extent the crew would allow. Now at this point, I want to ask. Who among you haven't looked and tried to make gesture to the hottest chicks while driving long distance. Well I, agree too, I have done it. My friends have done it. At least twice as I can remember. But nothing bad in it, it is kinda same behaviour we do or see in malls or parties, events or say homecoming. Well why can't driving long distance allow us to engage in the same type of stuff. Why does driving has to be such a big problem when it comes to long distance. Our life can be uniform with the help of technology and I believe, as some of my buddies do, it is there but can't be used yet. It has to be dispensed intermittently. If you ask why? The answer is money, money, money. I might be wrong but I have been conservative on that knowledge coz no one tells me any other way around. Thank god, I can concentrate well on my studies for the finals now that I have cleared my head!

All comments, concerns, questions, criticism welcome.

How much computing does have to do with green?

Ya, folks what is it? Every other thing you stumble upon, they start ranting about green. Be it fuel, clothes, food and computing. I can deal with other stuff but not with computing. Oh, common, computing doesn't harm green. I would say not at all. Well there might be some exclusive cases or situations but normal and everyday computing has got nothing to do with green, I say that using my intuition, I don't know the statistics on this and am not interested in finding out either.

Ok, by now I have made you furious. But yes yes yes, I do care and I do have the statisticcal knowledge about how much green a datacenter can hurt. That's true, the impact is huge. Normally nobody cares when it comes to datacenters but oooh la la...if you find the statistics you will know for yourself. Again I am not going to include the exact figures here, just google it coz I did that too and it came right up(google keywords: green+computing). Why would anybody care when we are talkinga bout a datacenter which takes care of millions of transactions seamlessly with efficiency in terms of hourly labors. But again, we are talking about people who create datacenters. We can definatey think of something. It is understood that datacenters take a lot of power and couple with that comes the cost of cooling as well. We can definately reduce that cost and that's what the pedantic programmers at Sun talked at the last summit in Cali area.

I am glad about the world starting to think about saving where we do not really need to because there is a large margin of profit. Well, we can start thinking in that way when it comes to saving green. I still do think though, we really are not doing anything at all when it comes to personal computing.

Ok, by now does anything ring a bell in your head? Hmmmm gPC. Yes, they are all about green and what is it? A regular PC built using 99.99% of the products from the Opensource community. That's good lead. I love it but then why are they greenifying it. It doesn't need to be greened. I don't understand that big funda behind it thought, if any of you care go ahead and be my guest please....hasta manana!
